According to the final Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported a total of around 77,600 tons of hot-rolled steel bar in January this year, increasing by nearly 22% compared to the previous month and also hiking by nearly 43% from the same month a year ago.
Among them, the imports from Canada accounted for the largest proportion, reaching around 27,800 tons, a month-on-month increase of 1.9% and a year-on-year drop of 5.3%. Other main import sources included Japan, Mexico, France, and Germany, with a separate volume of around 13,800 tons, 7,800 tons, 7,700 tons, and 4,200 tons.
During the period, the import value was around US$98 million, up by 29.1% month on month and greatly rising by 104% year on year.
