As we all know, aluminum smelting is energy-intensive and requires a huge amount of electricity. Generating the electricity required accounts for more than half the global aluminum industry’s greenhouse gas emissions.
In the development of a more sustainable society, aluminum plays a very important role. Therefore, how to produce aluminum sustainably is a significant issue.
In order to achieve this goal and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its aluminum smelting operations, Emirates Global Aluminium PJSC (EGA) is going to cooperate with GE Gas Power to convert EGA’s natural gas turbines to hydrogen-powered generators.
They signed a Memorandum of Intent last weekend. According to this Memorandum of Intent, continued investigation into carbon capture, utilization, and storage at the Jebel Ali and Al Taweelah plants will also be executed.
