The American Iron and Steel Institute reported that in the week ending on March 7, 2020, domestic raw steel production in US was 1,903,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 81.6 percent. Production was 1,913,000 net tons in the week ending March 7, 2019 while the capability utilization then was 82.2 percent. The current week production represents a 0.5 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending March 7, 2020 is down 1.0 percent from the previous week ending February 29, 2020 when production was 1,923,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 82.5 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through March 7, 2020 was 18,253,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 81.8 percent. That is up 0.6 percent from the 18,141,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 81.6 percent.
Broken down by districts, here''s production for the week ending March 7, 2020 in thousands of net tons: North East: 237; Great Lakes: 687; Midwest: 202; Southern: 704 and Western: 73 for a total of 1903.
