According to the analysis from market participants, nickel supply would be insufficient in 2018 so that the nickel price might keep rising.
It could be found that the supply and demand of nickel increased in 2017. However, the nickel demand was higher than nickel supply slightly. The global supply of nickel rose 95,000 tons in 2017, grew by 5.02% year on year. The global demand of nickel increased around 119,000 tons, rose by 5.89% year on year.
The global nickel supply would increase in 2017 which led to the rising nickel price. The average annual price of LME nickel was US$10,460/ton, grew by 8.51% year on year.
It was expected that the global nickel supply would increase around 127,000 tons in 2018 because the nickel supply continued to grow. Meanwhile, the nickel supply was estimated to go up by about 140,000 tons year on year, and partial demand for insufficient nickel would be replaced by stainless steel scrap.
