It is reported that the imports of steel products to Japan had an annual jump by 44% in this January to 487,000 tons, the highest level in 16 years, led by a large increase in imports coming from South Korea, Taiwan and China.
"Imports from South Korea have increased dramatically while the supply from China also grew," said Hiroshi Tomono, chairman of the Iron and Steel Federation of Japan
As result, the Japanese steel industry will examine this jump of imports from Asian neighbors because of the concerns that the increase such increase will stop recovery in domestic steel prices and reduce profits of local businesses.
