Dr. Andreas Liessem has been appointed to the executive management of Steelwind Nordenham (SWN), a wholly owned subsidiary of AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger), with effect from 1 April 2021. On 1 July 2021 he will assume the duties of Dr. Hubo (62), who will be retiring.
Dr. Liessem (56) is an engineer in metallurgy and materials technology/materials science. He began his professional career in 1989 as a research assistant at the IEHK Steel Institute at RWTH Aachen University before joining Europipe GmbH, a joint subsidiary of Dillinger and Salzgitter AG, in 1995. He has been managing director, technology/industrial there since 2014 and has extensive knowledge of the international steel and energy market and many years of experience in the processing of heavy plate and the manufacture of large welded pipes.
Günter Luxenburger, chief sales officer for Dillinger, said of the change in management at SWN: “Andreas Liessem is an experienced steel executive who, together with Alexander Morber, will continue to lead this still-young company in its expanding market.” Luxenburger added: “We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Ralf Hubo, who has played a decisive role in building SWN from the very beginning and who has been instrumental in advancing its quality and plant technology. SWN is one of the leading players today in the worldwide monopile market and stands for the successful manufacture of high-quality and extremely large monopiles for large offshore wind farms in Europe and internationally, as recently demonstrated with the Yunlin order in Taiwan.”
Steelwind Nordenham GmbH, a Dillinger Group company, has been manufacturing monopiles and transition pieces in Nordenham since 2014, and now also produces ''single-piece'' monopile foundations with unit weights of up to 2,400 metric tons. The single-piece monopile foundation replaces the previous design with a separate monopile and transition piece by integrating certain parts of the transition piece into the monopile. The monopile can then be up to 120 metres long. The steel for the foundations comes from Dillinger – the European heavy plate market leader located in Saarland.
